TR - Metro: Last Light review

Added: 15.05.2013 18:18 | 0 views | 0 comments

TR - There are stretches of Metro: Last Light where it reaches places other FPS games rarely reach. Theres the desolate swamp where you frantically search for fuel for your generator and inserts for your gas mask, cowering all the time from the eerie noises made by the local mutant fauna. Theres the flooded tunnels of a disused line, the ramshackle night-spots of an underground thieves den, the spooky spider-infested corridors around an enemy encampment. This isnt your usual post-apocalyptic nightmare, but a distinctly Russian one, grim and strange, yet balanced by pockets of warmth and sardonic humour.

Metro: Last Light to get adjustable FOV on PC

Added: 15.05.2013 17:41 | 0 views | 0 comments

Developer 4A Games warns against adjusting the field of view, however.

developer 4A Games has said it will add in a fan-requested ability to adjust the field of view (FOV) in the recently-released game, but has warned players that changing the setting could cause a number of issues.

Writing , Deep Silver community manager Maurice Tan posted an update from the studio saying an adjustable FOV is "not as simple a thing to implement as it might appear!"

"The main reason for maintaining a fixed FOV is because we have 3D elements like the watch and weapon ammo that need to remain visible," said the 4A Games statement. "In addition, all the game's first-person cutscenes and cinematics and each and every animation involving Artyom's hands--idle weapon animations, reloads, ladder climbing, melee attacks etc--were created assuming the same, fixed field of view."

"Changing the FOV would break all the cutscenes and animations--you would be able to see inside Artyom's arms, or they would appear to float in the air in front of you. Or worse."

4A Games says it considered offering three FOV presents, but maintained that doing so would be a significant time investment for the studio.

"We understand this issue is important to many people, and we have been looking at possible solutions," said the studio. "In the immediate term--the next title update, due in the next few days will allow you to directly change the FOV in the .cfg files."

"This may well trigger a number of issues listed above," concluded 4A Games, "you have been warned!"

Metro: Last Light was released this week for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. , with reviewer Kevin VanOrd calling it "an astonishing and moving postapocalyptic journey."

X360A: "Capable of brilliance, yet too often guilty of mediocrity, Metro: Last Light is a huge disappointment. We had great expectations for 4A Games sophomore release. Instead well have to settle for this compromised vision."
